The air is fresher as winter approaches and in the northern hemisphere were spending a bit more time indoors but our homes remain pretty much odour free thanks to fans, air con, windows and the such.

A long, long time ago, a very long time ago, people stank ! . And their homes stank too. So way way back some bright sparks came up with an idea and figured that they could disguise their odour by making another, even stronger odour by burning something. This idea caught on, so much so in fact that religious sects decided to go for it big style and fumigate everything and everyone within and beyond smelling distance. But how were they to visit the great unwashed in their homes whilst carrying a burning ember of sandalwood in their pocket? Another moment of revelation and someone came up with the idea of a Censer, a pot one, or a metal one you could put on the table and it wouldn't burn a hole in your pocket. Hey, someone suggested, why not put it on a chain and then you could throw it around bit, it'll work a bit like a fan, blowing our new smell about. Whats a fan? someone said, has it been invented yet? Everyone looked perplexed, yet they didn't give up on the idea and so the incense burner entered our lives forever.

Now's the time to check out a fine little antique 19th century Bronze censer from Japan, just click HERE or on the SHOP button.
