The lion (or dog) holds beneath its paw a globe representing the world, a structural inference to safety of property.
This item is antique. Japanese Meiji period circa 1880
Measuring 7 inches high and approximately 4.5 inches in diameter, this fine antique incense burner or Koro is in excellent condition exhibiting green blue colour internally from the Bronze composition.
No cracks, no repairs, no over polish. Good throughout.

Large lions are often seen in pairs aside steps and entrances to a temple for example.
This diminutive Koro is intended for more humble properties and perhaps used in prayer or meditation.
