November blog.

This business of putting the clocks back in winter and putting them forward in spring, I really don’t get it. I think way back it was to the benefit of farmers producing crops in daylight hours and candle shops flogging more candles in the evenings, but now! Really? Anyway it’s gone dark again.

It was back in the 1980’s a woman called Margret Thatcher ruled the world then some bloke called Arthur Scargill pops up. He wasn’t happy, and he turned the light off in Britain. Not good. So my dad came home with an oil lamp. “What the …. is that dad”? I said.

He explained that folks used to light their houses with these in the old days and we were going to do exactly the same until the power stations start making electricity and contributing to global warming.

I was young and didn’t understand, so I poured diesel fuel into to the font of the oil lamp, lit the wick and watched as the room was illuminated with thick black smoke and waited for the icecaps to melt.

Simplistic, I know, but you get my drift.

Anyway, you can still behold the wonderful lamps of yesteryear, be it original or electrically converted. Find then them on this site. Just click the SHOP button.
