Bob Cratchit left the light on

October and some bloke across the road had put up festive lights on their house. Thats October by the way.. October!

November, my local supermarket is stacking the doorways with “green festivity trees” they don’t call them Christmas trees any more apparently, and the radio DJ has just snook in the first Xmas song, Winters Tale by David Essex.

Calendar click… Ah, December…. The wife’s gone present shopping and I have a face on me like the Victorian, Mr Scrooge having to pay a wage to Bob Cratchit after he'd left the oil lamp burning all night!.

A lecturer at college once proffered that the Victorians did everything better. Err, umm, well, maybe so…. I think he was referring to strength and design in buildings, no matter, they produced some great engineers, artists and literary people.

On the literary front, Charles Dickens springs to mind especially so now in December, so near to Christmas. Watching re-runs of Christmas Carol gives a great insight into the furnishings of Victorian households some lavish others not so, but adding a touch of Victoriana to any home is sure to make for a great design piece and a talking point for guests in our modern homes.

Check out the shop for interesting period furnishings and add that talking point today.

And, lest I forget, wishing the democracy a very merry Christmas and fortunous new year.
