I was watching one of those murder mystery films on tv the other night where a group of wealthy gentry were invited to a weekend stay at a spooky old mansion. The host was lord D’Arcy the third.

The night after arrival, lord D’arcy was found dead in the lounge and the cops were called. The detective took notes. The doctor and Mr Mathews looked like very shady characters...............Everyone was a suspect.

The guests gathered together in the drawing room and began to speculate, recite tales of the previous night and accuse.

‘Why was there a broken vase on the floor in the hallway this morning,?

‘Why was the picture of the fishing boat hanging upside down’?

‘Did you see those eyes of the portrait of Miss D’arcy? I’m sure they follow me’ said one.

‘The patio doors flew open last night, but there wasn’t a breath of wind’ said another.

The experiences and questions went on and on.

Mr Mathews, the local mill owner said it was the ghost of young Miss D'arcy. "She killed herself 100 years to this very day" he continued, "after she had been betrothed by her father to old Cyril Smallpiece, the counties richest coal mine owner, but Miss D'arcy only had eyes for George Bigpiece, the towns fish monger and vase maker".

The doctor interrupts, “Nonsense!, this talk of ghosts is tosh and balderdash” he cries. At which outburst a valuable Chinese plate falls from the mantelpiece and smashes on the floor, the picture turns the right way up and the patio doors fly open but there is not a breath of wind!!!!. Everyone looks at each other for answers!!!.

Well, I don’t know about you, but the only reason a vase falls off the mantelpiece in our house is because the cat has been jumping up there and the doors fly open because I’m chasing the cat through the house to ring it’s neck for knocking my vase off in the first place.

As for the picture?. Hmmm?
